PURPOSE: A gear train for an automatic transmission is provided to realize forward six speeds and backward one speed by using three planetary gears and five friction elements and to prevent the loss of power due to high-speed rotation by restraining the generation of a high-speed element in the over-drive state. CONSTITUTION: A gear train for an automatic transmission includes a first, a second and a third planetary gears(PG1,PG2,PG3), a first, a second and a third clutches(C1,C2,C3) to connect a specific element of the planetary gears to an input shaft(1) or connect the planetary gears, and a first and a second brakes(B1,B2) to connect a specific element of the planetary gears to a transmission housing. The first planetary gear has an element fixed with the input shaft and an element connected to the transmission housing. The second planetary gear has an element fixed with a transfer drive gear(5), an element connected to an element of the first planetary gear, and an element fixed with an element of the first planetary gear and connected to the transmission housing. The third planetary gear has an element fixed with the transmission housing, an element connected with an element of the first planetary gear and the transmission housing, and an element fixed with an element of the second planetary gear and connected to an element of the first planetary gear. A transmission control unit selectively operates and release the clutches and brakes depending on the traveling state of a vehicle.
