Piezoelectric actuator charging method e.g. for actuator controlling fuel-injection valve in motor vehicle

A method of charging a piezoelectric actuator with one voltage source, requires initial measurement of the voltage present at the actuator (6), and charging of the actuator (6) to a specified voltage is then regulated in relation to the measured voltage. The actuator is specifically charged to the specified voltage in two charging steps or stages, and a given reference curve is used for the actuator charging process. The measured voltage is compared with the reference curve and from the result of the comparison a voltage increase is determined and the charging of the actuator (6) is controlled according to the voltage increase.
