The device includes a vertically movable portal and a horizontally movable slide which receives a vertically movable tool slide (4). An electronically controlled horizontal spindle can be fitted in on an angular orientated electronically controlled vertical spindle on the tool slide which is formed as a combined turning and milling head for the tool socket. A common drive rotates and positions the planing disc (5) through a single motor and switch gear which is permanently and directly connected to the planing disc without any coupling or uncoupling of any further drive train. A clamping unit locks the disc in the rotational axial centre of the latter. A central clamping pin is connectable with the disc and the combined turning and milling head for tool change connects with an automatically operating tool change device of a tool magazine (12). Measuring devices effect electronically controlled tool and workpiece measurement.
