<p>An optical recording medium which comprises a substrate having a pattern of protrusions and recesses formed in a major surface and on / from which a signal is recorded / reproduced by irradiating the pattern with light. The substrate comprises an intermediate layer made of a material for imparting rigidity, and a surface layer having a pattern of protrusions and recesses formed at least in a major surface of the intermediate layer. A granular filling material, a planar filling material, or a fibrous material is employed as the material for imparting rigidity. A surface layer is formed oppositely to a stamper having an inverted pattern of protrusions and recesses, an intermediate layer made of a material for imparting rigidity is formed on the surface layer, the stamper, the surface layer, and the intermediate layer are hot-pressed to integrate the surface layer, and the intermediate layer and the inverted pattern of protrusions and recesses is transferred onto the surface layer.</p> |
