The underlay consists of essentially vertically fixed parallel rows of identical narrow strips (12) of sheet material with raised integral support areas (22) for the sheet between recessed furrows (20). Needles (24) are set into the support areas with free ends forming supporting points for the applied sheet. The needles consist of substantially more temp. resistant material than the rest of the underlay. An Independent claim is also included for an application of underlay for sheet.
