The adjustable vehicle roof has a foldable cover (1) adjustabal between a closed position and a folded position, with a cover bar (2) and a covering material piece. The foldable cover in thee folded position lowers into a rearward stowage space. The cover bar is provided with a material holding stirrup (6), which in the closed position of the folding cover locates on a rearward, bodywork-side structural part and applies tension to the covering material piece. The material holding stirrup has a central section (6b) connected to the outer stirrup sections (6a,6c) via joints (8,9), which in the closed position of the roof adopt a blocking position. The stirrup sections in the folded position of the vehicle roof locate on one another.
