The device has two plates set into the upper and lower jaws (1,2) with a light transmitter and receiver. The transmitter has at least 3 light sources (L1-L3) and the receiver (5) detects the changing coordinates of the points of incidence of the beams in a sensor surface as the jaws move. The sources form a triangle on the transmitter plate and their light is incident at a point for one distance between the receiver and transmitter arrangements. Independent claims are also included for the following: a method of analyzing articulation movement between the upper and lower jaws.
