A copolymer produced by copolymerizing a vinyl compound (A) capable of giving a homopolymer having a refractive index of 1.50 or above with at least a fluoroalkyl (meth)acrylate (B) of the general formula (1) and methyl methacrylate (C) and characterized in that the (A)/(B) mass ratio of the copolymer lies in the range of 0.2 to 1; and plastic optical fibers and plastic optical fiber cables, made by using this copolymer as the cladding material. These plastic optical fibers and plastic optical fiber cables exhibit low transmission loss, which little increases even when they are held in a state winded on a bobbin, and small bending loss, and permit wide-band information transmission. In formula (1) X is H or CH3; and Rf is fluoroalkyl having 7 to 14 carbon atoms and 13 to 25 fluorine atoms.
