A process for the preparation of polymers containing double bonds by ruthenium carbene catalysis is carried out, where a ring-opening polymerization of monomers of the Formula (I) occurs wherein R1, R2, R3, R4 R5, R6, R7 R8, R9 and R10 independently are H or a substituted or unsubstituted, aliphatic or aromatic hydrocarbon radical having 1 to 20 carbon atoms; X=O, S, NH or NR11, where R11 has one of the meanings of R1; a, c end e=0, 1, 2 or 3, and b and d=0, 1 or 2; with the proviso that b and d are not simultaneously 0.
