<p>A process to produce ketenes which by reacting a carboxylic acid in a reactor in the presence of a silica functionalized monolith catalyst. The silica functionalized monolith catalyst can be prepared by silanizing the monolith with liquid tetraethoxysilane (TEOS) for at least about 2 hours and then hydrolyzed. In addition, the invention relates to a method to make a monolith catalyst by silanizing a monolith with liquid tetraethoxysilane (TEOS) in an acid solution and draining off the excess TEOS.</p> |
