PURPOSE: A method for calculating basic ignition timing is provided to prevent knock from generating and to improve the ability of starting by considering the cause according to a coolant temperature and an intake air temperature, and a compensation allowance of a transient state according to the variation of an engine RPM, and then optimizing ignition timing. CONSTITUTION: A method for calculating basic ignition timing comprises the steps of: reading data about a coolant temperature, an engine RPM and an intake air temperature from a map; and determining and returning ignition timing by a total value adding the data.
