The invention relates to polyesters that are appropriate as softeners and th at are obtainable by reacting aliphatic dicarboxylic acids, neopentylglycol, at least one further diol and a nonanol mixture. Said nonanol mixture substantially consists of 1-nonanol, monomethyl octanols, dimethyl heptanols and monoethyl heptanols. The invention further relates to the nonanol mixtur e and to the use of the inventive polyesters as softeners.
