Contactless bonding of a thermoplastic plastic component (T), comprises directing a strongly converging an energy beam (ES) on the component. Depending on where the focal point (FP) of the beam is (i.e. close to the side facing to, or away, from the energy source) the plastic is locally melted. As it cools, a temperature gradient is formed, which bends the plastic. Contactless bonding of a thermoplastic plastic component, comprises directing a strongly converging an energy beam on the component. The focal point of the beam is close to, or at, the component upper side (O) facing the energy source. The plastic is locally melted as it absorbs the applied energy, and, during cooling, bends towards the beam source due to the temperature gradient in the material. If the focal point of the beam is at or close to the underside of the component it bends away from the energy source on cooling. An Independent claim is made for a thermoplastic plastic component which is bent using the claimed process.
