The balancer for an axially reciprocating printing machine roller (1) consists of a counterweight (11) connected to the roller shaft (4) by a spindle (10) and a transmission assembly (8) which allows it to generate a force in the opposite direction to the reciprocating movement of the roller. The roller, made e.g. from a steel tube (2) with a rubber covering (3), is connected to the machine frame (6) by a supporting cradle (7).
