Zinc vapour is generated in a distillation chamber and, before it is passed into the condenser, is mixed with an inert gas, the admixture of the inert gas at this stage has the effect of reducing the volume shrinkage of the vapour in the condensation chamber when the vapour is suddenly cooled, and hence reduces the agglomeration of the particles so formed and their effective size. The resultant fine, uniform particles are suitable for use in pigments etc. The size of the particles produced may be varied by altering the amt. of the inert gas introduced into the vapour. The gas may be carbon monoxide or nitrogen. The gas leaving the condenser may be freed from any remaining zinc dust and re-used.
|
