PURPOSE: A method for monitoring data traffic of an Internet interworking device of an exchanger is provided to efficiently manage resources to a telecommunication channel by performing automatic assignment function of a data telecommunication channel in the exchanger. CONSTITUTION: A data channel traffic assignment control part sets up critical traffic quantity assigned to a channel currently being used(210-240). A data traffic monitor process calculates the difference in data traffic quantity transmitted and received in a current channel and a previous channel(250-280). A data channel traffic monitor part monitors the calculated data traffic difference and the set critical traffic quantity. If the data traffic difference exceeds the critical traffic quantity, a new channel is additionally assigned to the currently assigned channel, and if the data traffic difference does not exceed the critical traffic quantity, the assigned channel is reduced(290-330).
