METHOD FOR PREPARING HIGH PURITY CERAMIC FOAM HAVING EXCELLENT STRENGTH

PURPOSE: A method for preparing a high purity ceramic foam having excellent strength is provided which easily and uniformly coats a polymer sponge with a ceramic slurry and easily controls the density and the strength of the ceramic foam by regulating the amount of coating. CONSTITUTION: The method comprises steps of: (i) after impregnating a polymer sponge with a polyvinyl butyral solution prepared by dissolving 2-8 wt.% of polyvinyl butyral in an organic solvent, squeezing the polymer sponge; (ii) preparing a polyvinyl butyral coated polymer sponge by repeatedly compressing the polymer sponge of the step (i) in water to restore the elasticity of the sponge; (iii) after impregnating the polyvinyl butyral coated polymer sponge with 0.5-2 wt.% of organic binder added ceramic slurry, repeatedly compressing the sponge to have the sponge soaked on the ceramic slurry; and (iv) after squeezing the sponge of the step (iii) to discharge a surplus slurry, drying the molding body at room temperature and calcining it to prepare a ceramic foam.
