PURPOSE: A vehicle engine control method is provided to realize an optimal acceleration performance on a slope by calculating a rake angle and dividing a traveling range into a lean burn range and a general range according to the rake angle. CONSTITUTION: A vehicle engine control method comprises the steps of: deciding if conditions for a lean burn mode is satisfied by reading the opening degree of a throttle valve, the speed of a vehicle and the RPM of an engine(S110); outputting a lean burn control signal(S115); outputting a shifting range and deciding if the shifting range is a first speed(S130); sequentially deciding the speed of a shifting range from a second speed to a fifth speed(S140); setting up a travel resistance on a level road of a corresponding shifting range and calculating the value of theoretical acceleration and the value of real acceleration(S150); deciding if difference between the value of theoretical acceleration and the value of the real acceleration is over a first value(S170,S180); calculating a rake angle and comparing the rake angle with reference rake angles of each shifting range if the difference is less than the first value or same(S190,S200); and outputting a lean burn mode canceling control signal if the rake angle is higher than the reference rake angles(S210). Therefore, the will of a driver about a travel is satisfied.
