PURPOSE: A device for automatically controlling the state of a refrigerant is provided to prevent damage on a compressor and to reduce power consumption and noise by preventing inflow of a liquid refrigerant into the compressor. CONSTITUTION: An automatic refrigerant state control device for an air conditioner comprises an auxiliary refrigerant path(10) installed on a main refrigerant path(7) between a low pressure service valve(6) and a compressor(1), a drain valve(8) installed in an outlet part of the low pressure service valve to control a refrigerant path by thermally contracting corresponding to temperature falling of a refrigerant, and an auxiliary accumulator(9) changing the liquid refrigerant flowing through the auxiliary refrigerant path to gaseous refrigerant. The liquid refrigerant is changed into gaseous refrigerant by expansion in the auxiliary accumulator. The gaseous refrigerant flows into the compressor. Therefore, inflow of the liquid refrigerant into the compressor is restrained and the compressor is protected. Further, power consumption and noise due to inflow of the liquid refrigerant are reduced.
