The tubular shaft (3) for transmission of torque, particularly in the drive train of a road vehicle, gives rise to bending vibrations and bump vibrations during torque transmission. At least one axial section (9,10) of the shaft, in which a vibration bump is formed, is so constructed that in comparison with an adjacent shaft section it has an enlarged bending tendency and/or a reduced bump tendency. The shaft in the axial section for enlargement of the bending tendency has a reduced cross-section in comparison with the adjacent non-bendable shaft section. The reduced shaft cross-section of the weakly bendable axial section is formed by an all-round ring groove or ring notch.
