PURPOSE: A device for preventing ice from forming on a control box of a refrigerator is provided to prevent formation of frost in a cold air inlet port by restraining ice formation on a control box. CONSTITUTION: A refrigerator has a freezing compartment and a refrigeration compartment in both sides of a body. A freezing compartment door and a refrigeration compartment door are respectively installed in the front faces of the freezing compartment and the refrigeration compartment. A control box(16) is installed in the refrigeration compartment. The control box has two cold air inlet ports(18) formed in the upper end of an injected plastic box body(17) to flow cold air in the freezing compartment into the refrigeration compartment, and a heater(20) is installed around the cold air inlet ports to remove ice. When the refrigeration compartment door is opened, water drops are formed on the control box due to the cold air around the cold air inlet ports and warm external air. The heater restrains freezing of the water drops. The ice formation preventing device is controlled by the following steps. Upon opening of the refrigeration compartment door, a microcomputer detects the opening of the door and turns on the heater. If the door keeps opening, the heater is sustained in the on state. If the door is closed, the heater is turned off after a predetermined time is elapsed. Therefore, frost formation due to freezing of the water drops on the control box is prevented.
