PURPOSE: An elevator controlling device and a method thereof are provided to precisely calculate offset current according to temperature before starting of elevator and to minimize torque pulsation of electromotor for detecting failure of current sensor. CONSTITUTION: An operation controlling device(60) decides hall calling from a random floor and in case random hall calling occurs, a car moves and a door is open. A door opening detector(52) senses door opening action and an electromotor controller(53) switches a power converting device(30) to zero voltage to make a non-drive state. Herein, a current and offset detector(51) detects electric current output from the power converting device. Moreover, a current value read within a calculated current is decided to be less than a predetermined value. The average current value is set to a new offset current. Before completion of offset detecting and compensation, a door closing signal is fed then the previously set offset current is maintained. With starting of elevator, the elevator is stopped. Under failure of a current sensor(21), sensor failure is displayed.
