PURPOSE: A method for controlling the speed change of an automatic transmission is provided to obtain a maximum output effect by performing power-off damper clutch slip control. CONSTITUTION: A speed change controlling method comprises the steps of: deciding if a condition for the operation of a power-off damper clutch during a travel is satisfied(S110); deciding the control timing of a damper clutch in the power-off damper clutch operational condition; outputting a power-off damper clutch slip control signal(S200) and returning to a main routine after keeping engine rpm if the damper clutch control timing is after power-on damper clutch indirect control; and outputting a power-off damper clutch slip control signal(S140), learning an initial duty and returning to the main routine if the damper clutch control timing is after power-off damper clutch direct control. Therefore, maximum output is obtained in the real operation of an automatic transmission.
