A fishing reel 10 comprises a frame 12 having a handle 18 and supporting a spool 36 provided with means for locking it against rotation operable by a finger lever 78, a slot 26 being provided for free egress of a line 28. The line 28 may be engaged in slots 55 of a block 50 when not in use, a hook 34 being engageable on a stud 46, while an emergency line cutting blade 100 is provided. Locking means: The lever 78 is integrally connected with a pawl 82, normally engaging ratchet teeth 85 to prevent unreeling, the ratchet wheel 86 being secured to a side wall 45 of the spool 36. A brake disc 88 secured to the ratchet wheel 86 is engageable by a brake shoe 92 forming part of a brake member 93 pivoted on a pin 95 to the frame 12, while the lever 78 is similarly pivoted on a pin 94, being biased anticlockwise (Fig. 7) by a spring 96. Teeth 98 on a cam 91 fixed to the pawl 82 co-operate with recesses 99 on the member 93, to afford a series of braking intensities on operating the lever 78, the spool being locked when the lever 78 is pressed fully forward, or freed for unreeling when the lever is only partially advanced. |
