PURPOSE: An automatic back light compensating apparatus of a camera and a method thereof are provided to reduce the cost by automatically compensating back light without settling a back light compensation mode artificially. CONSTITUTION: A method for automatically compensating back light of a camera includes the steps of driving a passive AF module and a photometry part according to a first stage signal of a release switch(S100-S200); measuring response time of the passive AF module(S310), calculating a first conversion value with the response time(S320), and calculating a first brightness with the first conversion value(S330); comparing the first brightness calculated by the passive AF module and a second brightness calculated by the photometry part; judging whether the difference between the first brightness and the second brightness is within the settled range(S400); performing automatic back light compensation if the difference is not within the settled range, and performing photographing at an initial photographing mode if the difference is within the settled range(S600). |
