Transmission of a signal characteristic of the biological activity or specific biological behaviour of a substance from prim. support material (2), in which the activity is demonstrated, to sec. physically separate material which does not contain the substance. Activity is detected by an electrical or electromagnetic detector. Sec. material is exposed to an electrical or electromagnetic emitter, connected to the detector by the means of transmission and high gain amplification for a time allowing: (a) amplification of the signal received by the detector (5) and transmission to the emitter (11) (b) detection of signal from emitter by sec. material (4).
