PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing charcoal in a high yield, by which long raw material timber such as waste building wood can be efficiently carbonized as such, and to provide a charcoal kiln for performing the method. SOLUTION: This method for producing the charcoal in a high yield, is characterized by sequentially carbonizing the raw material timber from the side of a fuel hole 2 to the side of a smoke-discharging opening 4, while the supply of oxygen into the raw material timber carbonization-finished portion of the kiln is stopped at time intervals to prevent the excessive combustion of the carbonization-finished portion. The high yield charcoal kiln for performing the method for producing the charcoal in a high yield is characterized by disposing vents 7 in a portion 5a under both the side walls under the grate 5 of a charcoal-producing long kiln 5 having a fuel hole 2 with a door 1 at one end and having the smoke-discharging opening 4 with a chimney 3 at the other end, vertically connecting smell-adjusting chimneys 8 having closing means 15 to the vents 7, respectively, so that the upper openings 8a of the smell- adjusting chimneys 8 are higher than the height of the kiln, and further disposing an air-adjusting opening 9 having a closing door 10 under the fuel hole 2.
