PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing charcoal, by which combustion heat obtained in a combustion chamber can efficiently be circulated and by which operations are simple, and to provide a kiln for producing the charcoal. SOLUTION: This method for producing the charcoal is characterized by dividing the combustion chamber of the charcoal kiln into the upper combustion chamber and the lower combustion chamber, burning a kindling material in the combustion chambers, introducing the flames, the heat, and the like, into a carbonization chamber from the vent holes of a partition plate disposed in response to the upper and lower combustion chambers, burning a carbonizing material in the upper combustion chamber for a period for carbonizing the upper and intermediate portions of the carbonizing material in the carbonization chamber, and burning the lower portion of the carbonizing material in the lower combustion chamber for the carbonizing period, whereby the charcoal is produced in a suitable time.
