PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel olefin polymerization catalyst and a polymerization method for olefins using the catalyst. SOLUTION: The catalyst comprises (A) a transition metal compound represented by formula (1) (wherein M is a transition metal atom; R1 to R4 are each H, a halogen, a hydrocarbon group, or the like; m is 0, 1, or 2; n is 0, 1, 2, or 3; A is an atom of the group 13-16; E is a substituent having atoms such as carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, halogen, or nitrogen; p is the valence of M; and X is H, a halogen, a hydrocarbon group, or the like), (B) an ionic compound containing an anion cluster essentially containing atoms of the groups 16 and 17, and (C) an organometallic compound.
