PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of controlling axial tension for properly tightening a screw. SOLUTION: The screw rotational angle or tightening torque is detected with the progress of screw tightening work, it is read that the tightened body of the screw enters a proportional range to determine a proportional origin. Using the proportional constant known beforehand in the screw system of the tightened body of the screw, the rotational angle of the screw is divided into the elongation component of the screw system and the contraction component of a member to be tightened. A tightening diagram indicated with a triangle in which axial tension is taken as its strut is determined to control the tightening axial tension of the screw with the tightening diagram.
