PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To execute reverse printing quickly and efficiently. SOLUTION: A data transfer circuit block 31 reads out printing data from a memory (RAM) 13 under the control of a CPU 11 and supplies the same to a normal/reverse circuit 33 as well as supplies a transfer clock to a printing data receiving and outputting circuit 34. An output port circuit 32 supplies 0 in the case the printing method is normal printing, or 1 in the case it is reverse printing as normal/reverse command data to the normal/reverse circuit 33. The normal/reverse circuit 33 calculates the exclusive OR with respect to the printing data from the data transfer circuit block 31 and the normal/ reverse command data from the output port circuit 32 so as to supply the calculation result to the printing data receiving and outputting circuit 34. The printing data receiving and outputting circuit 34 receives the calculation result from the normal/reverse command circuit 33 synchronously to the transfer clock, and outputs a corresponding control signal to a printing head 5.
