PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a glittering coating composition which, even when it contains a mica pigment, can form a glittering coating film which has a compact color tone, realizing silkiness, and also has a hiding power and to provide a method for forming a coating film and a coated article prepared thereby. SOLUTION: This coating composition contains a vehicle and a mica pigment having an average particle size of 6μm or smaller and, preferably, further contains an aluminum flake pigment having an average particle size of 6μm or smaller and a specific surface area (by the BET method) of 52,000 cm2/g or higher.
