PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a new benzidine compound useful as a charge-transporting material used for an organic electroluminescene element. SOLUTION: This method for producing the benzidine compound expressed by general formula (1) (wherein R1 to R4 are each defined as follows) is provided by reacting a triphenylbenzidine compound expressed by general formula (2) (R1 to R3 are each the same or different, H, a lower alkyl or a lower alkoxy; R4 is H, a lower alkyl, a lower alkoxy or Cl atom) with a dihalogen compound expressed by general formula (3) [wherein X is a halogen atom; A is expressed by general formulae (4) to (8) (wherein, R5 is H, a lower alkyl, a lower alkoxy or Cl atom), provided that X is not Cl atom when the R5 is Cl atom].
