PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide sliding materials having excellent sliding properties under a high temperature condition and a low coefficient of friction. SOLUTION: Resin compositions comprise a carbon powder and a polybenzimidazole resin powder, and the sliding materials use these resin compositions. These sliding materials can be produced by compounding the carbon powder with the polybenzimidazole resin powder and heating and pressing the resulting compound to effect molding.
