PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of adjusting an image and an image forming apparatus capable of stabilizing a binary image and a multi-value image for a long time while using the apparatus. SOLUTION: In this image adjusting method, an optical quantity of a laser light emitted from a laser optical system in the image forming apparatus is controlled and a latent image is formed on an image carrier body by the laser light by controlling the pulse width of the laser light and to be developed. The density adjustment of the binary image is executed by controlling the light quantity of the laser light and the gradation adjustment of the multi-value image is executed by controlling the pulse width of the laser light selected by the density adjustment of the binary image.
