PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steel wire rod and a steel wire, having <=0.30 mm diameter deviation after straightening into a straight bar and excellent in cold forgeability, and to provide a method for manufacturing the steel wire. SOLUTION: The steel wire rod has <=0.2 mm diameter deviation and 0.1 to 10 m-1 curvature in respective parts before straightening and also has <=900 MPa tensile strength. The steel wire has <=0.2 mm diameter deviation and 0.1 to 10 m-1 curvature in respective parts before straightening and also has <=900 MPa tensile strength. The steel wire having the above characteristics can be manufactured by carrying out, after hot rolling or after hot rolling and successive heat treatment, drawing at <=10% (not including 0%) reduction of area.
