PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an ink jet recorder employing ultrasonic wave in which gradation control of image is performed by varying the diameter of an ink drop. SOLUTION: A plurality of piezoelectric elements 101 are driven simultaneously by a drive signal applied from a drive means 110 to generate an ultrasonic wave which is converged onto the surface of ink liquid 109 thus ejecting an ink drop by means of an ultrasonic beam. In such an ink jet recorder, m piezoelectric elements 101 are driven simultaneously when an ink drop of small diameter is ejected and m+2 piezoelectric elements 101 are driven simultaneously when an ink drop of large diameter is ejected thus controlling the diameter of an ink drop being ejected. |
