PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fire retardant filter material adaptable not only to a low density type filter but also to a high density/high pressure loss type filter, eliminating the generation of environmental pollution gas at a time of incineration and capable of being inexpensively produced at a low cost. SOLUTION: A fire retardant filter medium is formed by bonding a fiber web containing no halogen by a binder based on a thermoplastic resin containing no halogen and at least 50% or more of the fibers of the fiber web are constituted of polyester fibers and a hydrated metal compound type fire retardant and a phosphorus type fire retardant are added to the binder.
