PURPOSE: A method for suppressing an echo is provided to decrease a calculating quantity and a memory. CONSTITUTION: A far-end speech voice is separated into blocks having a fixed size, respectively. After calculating the maximum value of sizes of the samples of the blocks, only the maximum value is stored. Thus, a total maximum value is obtained by comparing the maximum values of the blocks, respectively. A voice signal of the far-end includes a voice signal of a near-end through an echo path(130). An echo path(130) is generated by a hybrid in the case of a line echo. Also the echo path(130) is generated by an acoustic coupling between a speaker of a terminal and a mike in the case of an acoustic echo.
