The reaction is carried out in presence of a catalyst consisting of a group VIII metal, pref. cobalt, rhodium or ruthenium and a derivative of a 1,2-diphospho-cyclopentent-5-one-4, pref. of general formula (I):- (where R1-R6 are alkyl, aryl, heterocyclic or aromatic groups, A12 are bridge atoms (O, S, N or P) and n is 0, 1 or 2). The atomic ratio of metal: P is 1:0.5 to 1:1.5. 0.0001-0.5% by weight metal to olefin is used. |
