摘要 PURPOSE: A mobile communication system using a smart antenna and a control method thereof are provided to reduce an interference between subscribers and increase a capacity of subscriber by transmitting a beam to a specific subscriber when a beam is transmitted from a base station to a mobile terminal in view of a characteristic of a smart antenna. CONSTITUTION: A diversity receiver(101) detects a Doppler frequency(Fd) generated according to movement of a mobile station(100) and outputs it to a controller(102). The controller(102) receives an RF signal having an angle data between the mobile station(100) and a base station(200), inserts a mobile velocity data of the mobile station into the RF signal, outputs it to an RF transmitting/receiving unit(103), and performs general controlling operation of the mobile station(100). The RF transmitting/receiving unit(103) receives the RF signal to the base station(200), receives an RF signal having an angle data between the mobile station(100) and the base station(200) and outputs it to the controller(102). A plurality of smart array antennas(201) respectively receive the RF signal outputted from a plurality of frequency up/down converter(202) and irradiates the RF signal to a desired mobile station(100). The plurality of frequency up/down converters(202) are connected to one of the smart array antennas(201), receives an IF signal from a modulating/demodulating unit(203), converts it to an RF signal and transmits it to the mobile station(100) through its own smart array antenna(201). A plurality of modulating/demodulating units(203) are connected to a signal input/output terminal of a corresponding frequency up/down converter(202). A beam forming module(204) is connected to the signal input/output terminal of the plurality of modulating/demodulating units(203). The beam forming module(204) determines whether the mobile station(100) is to be located at a hand-off area after a predetermined time elapses, performs a hand-off request to a controller(300) if it is the hand-off area, and transmits information on the mobile station(100). The controller(300) receives information on the mobile station(100) from the base station(200) in case of the hand-off, and transmits it to a corresponding base station to proceed with the hand-off.
