PURPOSE: Provided is a cathode active material for a lithium secondary battery, which contains carbon material substituted partially by boron nitride and can improve lifetime property of the battery. CONSTITUTION: The cathode active material is produced by a process comprising the steps of: mixing a crystalloid or amorphous carbon precursor and a boron compound; graphitizing the mixture under the inert gas such as argon or a mixture of the argon and nitrogen at a temperature of 2500-3000deg.C. The cathode active material contains the carbon material containing less than 8wt% of the boron nitride, wherein the carbon material contains 0.1-10wt% of B and 0.1-5wt% of N.
