PURPOSE: An induction heater having an overvoltage protection function is provided to be capable of preventing a switching power element from being damaged by excessive resonating pulse voltage by mounting a varistor to an entrance of a resonator. CONSTITUTION: A varistor(2) cuts abnormal overvoltage on a power line from an AC power supply(1). A rectifier(3) transforms the AC voltage into DC voltage. A filter(4) suppresses the power noise generated from the induction heater. A resonator(10) converts RF electric energy into magnetic energy to heat a cooker(9). A switching power element(11) connects/disconnects a line between a collector and an emitter in accordance with the waveform of a pulse input through a buffer(12), whereby RF current flows in the resonator(10).
