PURPOSE: An oil-tempered special steel wire for an engine piston top ring and a manufacturing thereof are provided to satisfy the stiffness and surface roughness required for a piston top ring and to omit the essentially required chamfering process when manufacturing the piston top ring by forming the steel wire into chamfered sectional shape. CONSTITUTION: An oil-tempered special steel wire for an engine piston top ring includes a sectional shaft that a corner is chamfered to be equal to a piston top ring by the extension with a special die having a through hole in the same shape as the piston ring, wherein a surface defect is removed by a depth of 0.10-0.30mm, the amount of secondary extension is 20-80%, third lead patenting is carried out by annealing at 650-750deg.C for 1-4 hours, and the amount of special extension processing is preferably 5-20%.
