PURPOSE: A wire rope having new structure to improve abrasion resistance and shear strength requested for improvement in conventional wire rope structures is provided, which can be effectively used for various machines and equipments. CONSTITUTION: In a process for the manufacture of a wire rope constituted by closing a multiple of outer layer strands on the circumference of separate rope cores, the process is characterized in that it comprises the steps of: extruding each outer layer strand by the use of a compaction extrusion roller before closing of outer layer strands; closing the extruded plurality of outer layer strands on the circumference of the rope core; and compressing the closed outer layer strands by the use of a swaying machine.
