PURPOSE: A method for recognizing expansion navigation information is provided to use navigation information newly constructed via information structure in which added navigation information is stored at an expansion region of a navigation file. CONSTITUTION: A method for recognizing expansion navigation information reads navigation information of a corresponding program within a corresponding navigation file if there is a request for access on the navigation information for a specific program within the data file stored at a recording medium(404). It is then checked that an expansion region for additional navigation information exists in the navigation file. If the expansion region for additional navigation information exists in the navigation file, the additional navigation information for the corresponding program within the expansion region is read(408).
