PURPOSE: A fuel ratio improving method for a diesel engine is provided to reduce a driving force for a high speed area unnecessary at a low stage for improving the fuel ratio and prevent a sudden change by a constant value for a loadless maximum rotation number, thereby improving the driving performance in case of changing the loadless maximum rotation number. CONSTITUTION: A fuel ratio improving method for a diesel engine includes the steps of map-setting maximum fuel amounts per gear ratio, an engine speed with respect to a minimum fuel amount, and an engine speed range value with respect to an engine injection amount(30), determining whether a clutch switch is "ON', a neutral switch is "ON" and a vehicle speed sensor is normal according to the map-set values(31), determining whether a cooling water temperature is higher than an operation temperature of a differential gear(32), changing constant values with constant values for fuel amount, engine speed, and loadless maximum rotation number computed with a slew coefficient by setting a map with the gear ratio according to the cooling water temperature(33,34), and computing constant values for existing loadless maximum rotation number if the clutch switch is "OFF", the neutral switch or the vehicle speed sensor is abnormal, or the cooling water temperature is low(35).
