PURPOSE: A cathode structure of an electron gun for a CRT is provided to be capable of reducing the failure rate and obtaining high Ekco voltage to generate a lot of current by extending the length of a sleeve and sufficiently assuring the distance between the cathode a first electrode affecting the heat expansion of the cathode. CONSTITUTION: The cathode structure comprises an electron emission layer(501), a base metal(502) for supporting the electron emission layer(501), a heater(502) for heating the electron emission layer, a sleeve(504) and a holder(505) for supporting the sleeve. The sleeve(504) protects the heater(503) as well as transfers the thermal energy generated from the heater(503) to the base metal(502). In addition, the length(l) of the sleeve(504) is 2-5 times as long as the length(L) of the holder.
