PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rear gate device capable of loading an automobile having the low ground height of a vehicle front lower end part on an automobile carrier and excellent in economical efficiency and workability. SOLUTION: A main gate 18 of the rear gate device 12 is guided by a guide rail 16A from the fully opening position; the base end 18A can descend up to the ground surface vicinity by interlocking with a gate slider 26 descendable up to the ground surface vicinity; and when becoming an almost horizontal state, an automobile 40 is made to go on board by self-traveling. When lifting the base end 18A by a lift 22, the automobile 40 slantingly rises forward and upward; an upper surface of the base end 18A is put in a state of becoming the almost same height as a deck part rear floor surface 14A; and the automobile 40 is loaded on the automobile carrier by self-traveling.
