PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a novel pressure-sensitive adhesive article whereby the surface roughness of the coating film caused by the occurrence of cissing, wrinkles, bubbles, and streaks is reduced even when the coating film is formed by applying a pressure-sensitive adhesive composition at a high speed, thus enabling a smooth surface of a coating film to be obtained. SOLUTION: In this method for producing a pressure-sensitive adhesive article, a substrate is coated with an aqueous dispersion-type acrylic pressure-sensitive adhesive composition at a coating speed of 300-600 m/min. The adhesive composition contains a polymer which is obtained by polymerizing a monomer component containing an alkyl (meth)acrylate and has a glass transition point of -40 to -70 deg.C. The composition has a solid content of 45-73 wt.%, contains emulsion particles having a number average particle size of 0.1-1μm, has a thixotropy index of -0.2 to -0.65 and a shear fracture coefficient of 0.6-1.0, and exhibits a surface tension (at 20 deg.C) of 25-38 dyn/cm when diluted with the same wt. of water.
